#1984WrestlingWars 2 episodes of Central States Wrestling from 3/17 and 3/24/84, Mid-South-Wrestling TV for the 4th week of March 1984

Author's Note: I decided to put the 3/17 and 3/24 episodes of Central States Wrestling TV together in this blog post due to the fact that while trying to keep everything from the same date in the same post, I felt that the 3/17 blog would be to long if I added another show. So I chose to include it in this one!

Central States Wrestling TV 3/17/84 The highlight of this show was a very good tag match. The Grapplers vs Ted Oates and Ron Richie. Richie and the Grapplers have had issues and several clashes of the past few weeks! Ted Oates was a long time KC wresting veteran. He started wrestling in 1970 and hit most major territories around the country. So these KC knew him well and loved him very quickly! He got the crowd fired up! He and Richie should have been dubbed "The Spinning Toe Hold Connection" That was the finisher used by both men! The Grapplers were a great team they were big territory stars in many places, Memphis, Portland, and Southwest(San Antonio) come to mind! Early in the bout Oates gets both Grapplers in the spinning toe hold one after the other to drive them to the floor. The masked team were well known for two things. Pulling the illegal switch ploy, being dressed alike. Also for Grappler #1's loaded boot! They try the switch early in this match, but the crowd rats them out and Sonny Myers a ref so immobile, he makes Bronko Lubich look like Bobby Eaton, has them switch back. The heels get heat on Richie by hitting him from behind with a knee to the small of the back. Ron Richie hits a reverse Atomic Drop and Oates makes the hot tag. He cleans house until it breaks down into a 4 way brawl1 At one point both Richie and Oates have spinning toe holds on the Grapplers simultaneously! But, Richie gets kicked off of his and sent to the floor. Oates gets double teamed until he counters a double backdrop and boots Grappler 2 to the floor. Oates locks on the spin once again but instead of trying to get the submission he starts trying to take the boot off Grappler #1! The other masked man sees this and climbs to the ropes flies off and whacks Oates in the back of the neck with an elbow! So of course the ref calls for the bell...wait....what???....why??? In some territories jumping from the top rope to a downed foe was still illegal sure, but Oates was on his feet so.... Anyway the DQ is called for reasons and the brawl continues. This is easily the best Central states match I have seen to this point! In other action Roger Kirby attacked "Tiger Mask" while he was in his street clothes. Kirby was rocking a track suit! TK was getting high fifes from fans at ringside when Kirby took advantage!  The two brawl in the ring and then follow to the dressing room out of sight!...They showed a long Tommy Rich squash bout from Georgia and several other bouts! The most excitement I have seen during a show from this territory!...https://youtu.be/-33nqIVTguY

Central States Wrestling TV 3/24/84 From the penthouse to the outhouse, with Central States Wrestling! After heaping praise on the show from the 17th. The show from the 24th frustrates me so much! TG Stone and Tiger Mask have a passible 10 minute draw, they show an old One Man Gang squash from Florida....A "Bruce/Butch Reed music video. Nothing awful but nothing good or great either! Then during the return tag bout from last week The Grapplers vs Ron Richie and Ted Oates the video freezes before the end of the bout! I'm upset because just like last week the match was very good until no finish! I include it here just for continuity's sake and because the 17th's show was so good!....https://youtu.be/dE88Fk55bhc

Mid-South Wrestling for the 4th week of March 1984! The big news of this program a huge escalation in the Midnight Express/"Cowboy" Bill Watts feud! Watts was conducting ringside pretape interviews with the two men in this day's Mid-South Tv Tourney semi-final. Terry Taylor and "Hacksaw" Butch Reed. Taylor's went fine, but as Watts is interviewing Reed, Jim Cornette shows up and starts taunting Watts! Cowboy says "Get out of here sissy" and tries to continue the interview. Meanwhile, The Midnight Express jump him from behind and knock him down. The Jimmy runs over and while Coundry and Eaton hold a groggy Watts Cornette hits him with a loaded "SlapJack" busts the "Cowboy" open and knocks him cold! As Brian Last pointed out in the podcast clip I posted the other day Reed just slowly walks away a bit disgusted by this attack! Watts looks dead! This crowd had no idea how to process what they just saw! That's how you make money kids!....Cornette does commentary on several matches until Boyd Pierce tells him that Hacksaw Duggan is on his way out, and in a odd happen stance! Cornette has to go call home!...Duggan faces Masao Ito. While they wrestle Volkoff runs in with a board to smash Duggan, who blocks it and hits Volkoff.  The former Darsow runs in with Duggan's Coal Miner's glove on his hand he breaks the board in half with a punch! The other heels hold Duggan while the Russian Sympathizer gets ready to smash him with the glove! Other babyfaces run in and make the save!......And a rare event for Mid-south Tv at the time! Taylor and Reed wrestle thru an ad break and tv time runs out on their tournament bout! We will have to see what they do about that on next week's show!......There was high drama this week for sure!   https://youtu.be/j1O66bszkl4
