#1984WrestlingWars The 1st Piper's Pit, AJPW TV and Central States TV All from 1/28/84
The Debut of "Piper's Pit" WWF Championship Wrestling 1/28/84 This is the beginning of the best/1st interview promo weekly segment ever! For the next three years almost every important angle came thru "The Pit! Roddy was simply made for this! The Old show " Victory Corner" and it's dead broom of a host Robert Derbord begin the segment and also mention that Victory magazine will now be called WWF magazine. Piper gets the mic, thanks this stammering fool, then calls him gutless a cowerd and stupid! Piper says He would rather hear Lassie bark than Ivan Putski sing,Putski often did this after matches on the house mic, a good line by Roddy. The 1st of many! He insults more guys and then just walks off! This is worth seeing! https://youtu.be/is2DT3aKrLE
Now for a dramatic change of pace, AJPW TV, 1/28/86 Match#1 We begin with what I now think of as "The Great Kabuki squash of the week" segment. This week's victim Steve O. They show Kabuki's entrance(can't blame them best portion of his matches for the most part!) Then we skip to 5 minutes into the match! With the TV add breaks included this was about 6 minutes on TV. Couple of odd things I noticed in that time. Steve O piledrove Kabuki on the floor and it was just another move. If this were Memphis the man who took that move would have been presumed near death for weeks!...2ndly Steve O would hit a big move and then yell like we was A blond world champ or something, it was weird! Kabuki won with his high kick, judo thrust from the ropes combo! This was not awful or anything!
Match #2 Tenryu vs Umanosuke Ueda Ueda broke the mold as he was one of the early native born Japanese heels in Japan! This match was just a crazy brawl. Udea gets in the ring and tries to nail Tenryu with his kendo stick. Tenryu blocks this and ends up getting said kendo stick and whacking Ueda right in the mush with it! They spent 95% of the match on the floor. At one point Ueda drives Tenryu head 1st into a table over the gaurdrail and knocks the table over and almost kills the poor ring announcer!(oh, did i metion this was nuts???) Tenryu picks up 3 chairs made together and starts wailing on Udea. Then he picks up a single chair and hits the heel twice flush in the head with it! The match ends in a double countout, thankfully before eitheir man died!
Match #3 The Freebirds vs Jumbo Tsuruta/Giant Baba, who were defending the NWA International Tag Team Titles in the match! The story told in the match was simple, Gordy was tough and Hayes was a crazy man but he was no match one on one with Baba! Very solid work here by all four! The ending felt very flat as it was a double countout, even the crowd seemed let down by this! Many AJPW Main Events of this era ended this away, what happens when you dont wany anybody to lose!https://youtu.be/hCwM-B54YNU
Central States Wrestling Tv 1/28/84 Biggest news/match on the show, A match between Brusier Brody and Kimala! In Brody's corner long time friend(and Kansas City Booker at the time) Col Buck Robley! This was exactly what you picture when you think of Brody vs Kimala, a crazy bloody out of control brawl! No wrestling anywhere in sight but a great wild spectacle! Only drawback every time there is action on the floor you cant see it because fans are standing up in front of the camera! There are also a couple strange edits in the tape. At one point Robley jumps on Kimala's back then we jump cut and Kamala is down getting beat up!....Besides that the best part of the show were promo's for a Upcoming St. Louis card, One on tape sent in by NWA Ric Flair talking about his foe for that card Barry Windham(who hadwon a battle royal on the last card to earn the title shot!) Flair promo's from this era make me love wrestling!...The other great promo was By Harley Race talking about his next challenger for the Missouri title Wahoo McDaniel! Harley Race cut promo's you damn well believed!....Solid victories by the Youngbloods, "Crazy" Luke Graham and the Grappler round out the show! Not much storyline wise on this show, but nice wrestling! https://youtu.be/_-50SfdWxUY
