A WCCW bout from Ft Worth, David Von Erich's last televised match, 2/6/84, 2 NJPW JR Heavyweight Bouts, 2/7/84 Hogan's 1st WWF Title defense from St Louis 2/10/84

David Von Erich vs The Missing Link 2/6/84, Well folks a moment has arrived I have dreaded since I came up with the idea for the telling/retelling of the year 1984 in pro wrestling. The last known footage of David Von Erich before his death 4 days later in a hotel room in Japan! I must tell you that watching David in the match makes me deeply sad! I cannot see him wrestle without this happening! David wrestles Dewey Robertson AKA "The Missing Link" here. I watched this match for the 1st time last night, doing research for this blog and I was gobsmacked that David's entrance music on this night, which he did a two step jig in time  with in the ring by the way! Was a big hit for miss Tanya Tucker called" Texas(When I Die)" can you believe that heartbreaking irony! .... The match was ok it took place in what looked to be a actual cattle barn! There was a big drop off at ringside Link almost "fell" into several times. His manager Gen Skandar Akbar having to "save" him! Both men were really having a good time here. As a one point Link headbutts the door of a cattle shoot on the floor! When he gets back in David goes outside mimicks "he's crazy" to the fans and has to hold back a laugh! At another point David has Link on the canvas in a sleeper. While trying to escape/counter both men go around and around doing thier tribute to the "Curly Shuffle"! They had to be running low of TV time, Because Out of nowhere for no real reason Both Super Destroyers Jump in and pummel David. Kerry Comes out to make the save and the show is done!........I will have more on David's life/career and passing in a  couple days! He was a Texas Legend when he died, I believe very shortly after his death he would have had the wrestling world at his fingertips if he had lived! https://youtu.be/8yfpSyJYVbg

Semi-final and the final in a JR heavyweight title tournament, Dynamite Kid vs Davey Boy Smith, Dynamite Kid Vs Cobra 2/7/84 Match#1 Wow today has turned into a whistful" what might have been" wrestling blog today! This 1st bout vs Davey Boy is where many believe his torturous back issues that,  would as time wore on,  destroy his life and well being in many ways began! The match began slower than any I have seen these two have! With some jaw-dropping move-counter-move spots early with Davey coming out on top! At one point early DK takes a beauty of a high press slam jumps up and gets hit with a tremendous arm drag! Small stuff but man it works! DK takes over when he spills Davey to the floor hits a plancha to the outside, then fires Smith back 1st into the metal barricade. After a few minutes DK hits his tombstone piledriver and huge top rope diving headbutt combo...And Daves kicks out at 2! ...The crowd pop on the kickout was just great. They thought that was the end! The two men go back and forth until the moment where DK gets hurt. Davey does the spot where he vertical suplex's himself and DK over the top rope to the floor. You know something is wrong right away,  as Kid hits his back on the apron on the way down and just crumples in a heap! Davey goes to pick him up and you can see Kid saying he is hurt because Davey goes back down. Dynamite somehow manages to crawl back in the ring beating Daveyboy and the 20 count to win the match! I doubt this was the finish they had booked but Kid was done for the time being! The two men hug mid ring and the crowd loves it! Kid is limping very badly to one side letting the ropes hold him up!....Match #2 Kid vs Cobra in the final of the tournament. This match was faster both in ring time and pace! Cobra hit a summersault flying plancha to the floor just incredible for the time! Kid got in the ring 1st after that and nearly won via countout! The match was obviously shortened due to Kid's back. Cobra puts him in the scorpion death lock and Kid has to counter almost before the hold is on! DK hits his tombstone, Cobra kicks out! They trade great near falls here. Kid hits a gutwrech suplex from the top rope another kickout! Frustratingly the finish was clearly botched but with kid in clear pain it is understanable! Dynamite kid counters Cobra by cradling him up much like the couter to the victory roll. He thinks that is supposed to be three and gets up and heads to his corner exausted. Both the ref and Davyboy, who has been watching the match from ringside, franticly tell him it was a two count not three. So Kid clearly upset and in pain walks over to a now standing Cobra, who seems confused, gives him  a back suplex cradles him sort of a curcifix and gets the victory! Bad finish no doubt but the crowd didn't care they loved this win! An incredible gut check performance by Kid here! https://youtu.be/qB9WmX47V-M

WWF World Title Match Hogan's 1st defense in the US, Hogan vs Masked Superstar St. Louis 2/10/84 There is nothing much to this really. half the match is cutout! Hogan wins via DQ when he takes the foreigin object out of Superstar's Mask! The match is importand because it does show that even in a longtime "Workrate territory" Hogan was MEGA OVER! Not my cup of tea but he drew money! no denying that at all! https://youtu.be/nOfItjApPyg
